Pressure on the President, Nigeria Labour Congress Adams Oshiomhole to particiapte in the 2007 governorship election in Edo State took a new dimension over the weekend with the state citizens living in United States appealing to him to get involved as a first measure towards salvaging the states from current level of despair.

The citizens under the umbrella of Edo Political Action Committee (EPAC), a non-partisan body said that Oshiomhole remained the most credible person that can turn the fortune of the state around after many years of misrule.

In a statement entitled 'For Edo Renaissance From 2007: Comrade Adams Oshiomhole Must Heed the People's Call," the group urged political gladiators in the state especially Chief Tony Annenih and Dr. Sam Ogbemudia to support the quest of Edo people to have the labour leader as the next governor of the state.

The statement signed by Mr. Augustine Okolo Ojieabu, the General Coordinator and representatives of the three senatorial zones in the state;Dr. Joseph T. Yesufu-Osawaru Coordinator, Edo South Senatorial District, Mr. Alfred Ebikade Ilentamhen Coordinator, representing the Edo Central Senatorial District and Mr Ayatu Abu from Edo North senatorial district said that the state need a top performer to make up for the six years of waste.

The group said, " we are constrained to join other voices of reason to call on Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to stop further prevarications and heed the clarion call to serve the good people of Edo State, and give hope to the hopeless, come year 2007. .

"Comrade Oshiomhole has proved over the years that he can restore hope through his various activities, which span through military regimes and now under a democratic setting, that he can in fact, make a difference to restore the people's confidence in leadership and governance. The situation in Edo State today demands selfless service"

The group said that its endorsement of Oshiomhole goes beyond any selfish, sectional and partisan interest but a solemn and passionate call to a man who is a "quintessence of true leadership and governance". According to the Edo people in diaspora, Oshiomhole has exhibited qualities of a committed leader in the various fuel crises protests he had to lead these past years.
In such a time of crisis of leadership in the state, EPAC said that Edo State is in dire need of a performer, a selfless visionary and a true leader; in the class of Oshiomhole.

The organisation insisted that many of those aspiring for the state top job lack the basic qualities to turn the state around.

Aware of the array of forces in the state positioning themselves for 2007, the group urged Annenih and Ogbemudia to join forces with other well meaning Edo indigenes to pressurise on Comrade Oshiomhole to heed this call for a salvage mission. "This way, history will be kind to them, and their children would be the beneficiaries of their good sense of judgment in bringing about a Comrade Oshiomhole's government"

According to the body," as sons and daughters of Edo State in diaspora and who have been forced into self exile due to bad governance back home; as people who have experienced good governance in other civilized climes, we appeal to these forces to eschew sectional and personal aggrandizement and let us have a credible leader that only Oshiomhole for now, represents. Edo State, towards 2007 should be on a salvage mission before the State sinks into irredeemable oblivion. We believe our Oshiomhole must captain the Salvage Vessel" said the group
