Lagos lawyer, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) Wednesday tongue-lashed former Information Minister, Chief Alex Akinyele, describing him as "a political jobber and an economic sycophant" over the latter's recent comment on the letter he (Fawehinmi) sent to President Olusegun Obasanjo on the death of his wife, Stella.
Fawehinmi had in an open letter to Obasanjo on Monday criticised him for allowing his wife to travel abroad for cosmetic surgery, which he described as unnecessary.
He also berated the Federal Government for the poor state of facilities in the nation's health institutions, arguing that the surgery by the late first lady could have been done locally but for the government's failings.
The legal icon, however, drew flak from Akinyele who described Fawehinmi's letter to the President as "wicked and inhuman." He said Fawehinmi had made similar ascerbic comments after the death of his wife, Yvonne.
Not to let such go unchallenged, Fawehinmi in an interview with Daily Sun on Wednesday not only restated his stand in the letter to the President "absolutely and completely," he also charged at the former Information Minister.
"I don't have time for political jobber, an economic sycophant and a financial running dog of the establishment. He has never been serious in his life. He has never had a respectable personality and has never believed in himself.
"He has always tied his apron to those in power. He worships power without any respect for principles and idealism. He has a narrow perspective of governance and of course he has a delinquent position and kindergarten perception."
"At best, he is a comic figure worthy of being a member of the famous comedian, Baba Sala's troupe. He is an Alawada Kerikeri," Chief Fawehinmi declared.
Chief Fawehinmi also challenged the former minister to produce to the whole world, a similar letter he claimed to have been written to him (Akinyele) when he lost his wife.
