The management of the premier tertiary institution said the workshop was aimed at bringing out the best of practices and services from the target groups in serving the nation, in line with the tenets of service delivery (SERVICOM).
Speaking at the opening of the training workshop, Director of the Yabatech Consult, Mrs. M.K. Ladipo said that the five-day programme, with seven learning sessions and a syndicated session will further educate the participants on the principles of occupational safety and health and other existing legal framework and relevant international labour standards, as well as procedures relating to inspection, reporting and prosecution.
The workshop was also to enhance the techniques, skills and personal attitudes in industrial relations management and labour inspection, as well as equipping participants with current strategies in integrated labour inspection, among others.
Those who attended the workshop include factory and labour inspectors on grade levels 07 to 14 of the Ministry of Labour and Productivity whose responsibilities include the inspection of factories, ensuring that workplaces in Nigeria adhere to standards as contained in the Labour and Factory Acts, ensuring occupational hygiene and safety in workplaces, investigation of accident and dangerous occurrences in workplace, as well as prosecution of cases arising under the labour/factory acts.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry who was represented by the Director of Personnel, Mr. Bernadette Edet said employers of labour throughout the country are now aware that they must be made to adhere to minimum labour standards as provided by law.
'You are in the forefront of the effort to ensure that erring employers who flagrantly violate our labour laws and international labour standards receive appropriate sanctions. This indeed is an onerous responsibility that requires integrity transparency, sacrifices and commitment," he said.
