Obasanjo pacifies Atiku, Marwa, others


PRESIDENT Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday held a closed door meeting with Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Governor Boni Haruna of Adamawa state, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Rtd), Alhaji Jubrin Aminu, and all the disputants involved in the Adamawa political problems with a view to reconciling the aggrieved parties.

ABUJA - PRESIDENT Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday held a closed door meeting with Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Governor Boni Haruna of Adamawa state, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Rtd), Alhaji Jubrin Aminu, and all the disputants involved in the Adamawa political problems with a view to reconciling the aggrieved parties.

The meeting which lasted for several hours had the President setting up a committee headed by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur to unify the parties within two days ahead of the Local Government Congress of the Peoples Democratic party. Also in attendance at the meeting were National Chairman of the PDP, Sen. Ahmadu Ali, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party, Chief Tony Anenih and Senator Jonathan Zwingina. Others are Brigadier General Aliyu Kama (rtd), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, Alhaji Adamu Bello, Minister of Agriculture, Adamawa PDP chairman Joel Madaki, Vice admiral Murtala Nyako (rtd), Mr. Paschal Bafyau.

The meeting was at the instance of President Olusegun Obasanjo who may have kicked-off reconciliation moves to unite and soothe all frayed nerves in the Nigerian Political system. This was in the spirit of his call during the death of his Wife that Nigerians should dump their political differences to forge a common platform in advancing the prosperity of the country. Yesterday's meeting commenced at 4.10 pm and closed at 5.55pm.

The delegation from Yola was first ushered into the president's office after which the VP followed shortly. Other details of the meeting were not known as at press time.
In an interview with Marwa, he described the meeting as a family affair and refused to make further comment on the matter. General Buba Marwa, of late has been having a strained relationship with Vice President Atiku Abubabakar. 'it was a family meeting. It was a family meeting. That is what I can answer you. I am sure that when family meet, they always talk (laughter). But you can see everybody coming out smiling. So, that should be a signal".
The Governor of Adamawa State refused to answer questions from newsmen only saying 'no comment".

Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, fromer Governor of old Gongola State said that the committee was equal to the task, adding that the meeting was 'very good". He said that he feels 'good about the meeting. The main purpose of the meting is to make sure that the PDP remains strong and undivided. We are equal to the task". Confirming that the meting was indeed called at the instance of President Obasanjo, said hope that the meeting was to cement relationship amongst all members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Adamawa State so that it remains united and strong. 'This a meeting that the President called for Adamawa political leaders. So, we had a very good meeting and we understood everything that needs to be done. ' As a family, you know that sometimes you can get a little bit of problems, but after sometime, it will be settled. We thank the President for calling us for this very good meeting. With the Vice President, the Governor, with all the political stakeholders in Adamawa where the PDP started", he added.
