EFCC and corruption in JAMB

I wish to call on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in view of its efforts to sanitise the Nigerian State, to investigate allegations of corruption against the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB.

It is unbelievable that a group of JAMB administrators and their collaborators might have swindled staff tax deductions totalling over N11 million. Every month, taxes are deducted from JAMB's staff salaries, yet a recent publication in The Punch edition of September 15, 2005, listed JAMB as one of the organizations that failed to remit such taxes to the Board of Internal Revenue.

A brother to one of the big men in JAMB was allegedly given a contract worth N4 million recently, for the supply JAMB Identity Cards.

The same man was shortly given double promotion without any additional qualification as required by the Federal Civil Service Commission. Yet, there are other better qualified staff not considered fit enough for upgrading.

Nigeria is for both the rich and the poor, and in all we do, we need the fear of Allah, for in Him is the ultimate power over issues of life and death.

The Registrar has an image to protect. He should call members of his team to order. He should not let them soil his good name by allowing them contravene Federal Civil Service rules with impunity.
