Action Aid International was one of the corporate organizations worst hit by the Bellview Flight 210 crash. Two staffers of the organization: Mr. John Moru (34 years) and Mr. Chinwuba Egbe (34 years) lost their lives in the tragic incident. Action Aid also lost a key partner, Mr. Justice Egware (36 years). He was the National Coordinator of Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) campaign. He was also the Policy Advisor of Civil Society Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA).
The trio were returning from Lagos where they attended a meeting a meeting of GCAP.
Action Aid International Chief Executive, Ramesh Singh, said of the three young men who devoted their times and lives to the campaign for a better life for ordinary people through their non-governmental organisations, "This is a tragic loss to all our partners and colleagues in ActionAid International. Chinwuba, John and Justice touched the lives of their colleagues, staff and partners across the Pan-African community. They will be remembered for their sustained and committed fight against poverty and injustice."
John and Justice were both activists, dedicated to the eradication of poverty and the extension of political and human rights to all people. Chinwuba worked at the grassroots level, amongst the poor and excluded, where he helped to shape issues of common interest and to empower individuals.
These young colleagues contributed in no small measure to the mission of ActionAid International. John contributed to the emergence of a strong governance team in ActionAid International Nigeria (AAIN) and the initiation of the Nigeria Social Forum (NSF). Similarly, through the Reflect Project, Chinwuba contributed to the livelihood of poor people across more than 30 communities in Nigeria.
Justice not only sustained the growth of the National Coalition on Education (CSACEFA), he also contributed to the organisation''s growth as a leading voice on educational issues, bringing the ‘‘voice'' of civil society into national discourse. Justice was in the forefront of the struggle for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) through the MDG Campaigns. John is survived by a wife and a daughter, while Justice is survived by a wife and a son.
