The Federal Government has declared Wednesday and Thursday next week as public holidays for the celebration of this year's Id-El-Fitri.
In a statement in Abuja, the Public Relations Officer for the ministry of internal affairs, Mr. Adeyemi Nelson quoted the minister, Amb. Magaji Muhammed, as urging all Muslims to continue to put the principles of tolerance, care, love and devotion into practice.
'We must all practice the principle of righteousness and holiness as propagated by Islam," he said.
Muhammed sent greetings to all Muslims at home and abroad as well as foreign friends resident in the country.
He also enjoined all Nigerians, irrespective of their belief, to use the occasion to pray for God's continued protection, guidance and mercies on the country.
The minister commiserated with President Olusegun Obasanjo on the death of the First Lady, Mrs Stella Obasanjo.
He also condoled all Nigerians, especially the families of those who lost their loved ones in the ill-fated Bellview plane crash on Oct. 22.
Muhammed prayed God to grant the families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
