Dokubo Wants Obasanjo, Odili, 38 Others Summoned


Alhaji Mujahideen Asari Dokubo, detained leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), has asked a Federal High Court, Abuja to summon President Olusegun Obasanjo, Rivers State Governor Peter Odili and 38 others as witnesses in the treason charge brought against him by the Federal Government.

Alhaji Mujahideen Asari Dokubo, detained leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), has asked a Federal High Court, Abuja to summon President Olusegun Obasanjo, Rivers State Governor Peter Odili and 38 others as witnesses in the treason charge brought against him by the Federal Government.

In an eight-paragraph affidavit in support of the motion for summons filed yesterday at the Federal High Court registry, Dokubo's lawyer, Festus Keyamo said Dokubo notified him that certain meetings were held at different times in 2004 where he (Dokubo) was granted amnesty by President Obasanjo pursuant to section 175 of the 1999 constitution on allegation bordering on the same charges that have been preferred against him at the Federal High Court.

This is coming ahead of the continuation of his trial on Thursday,
November 10. Keyamo, also alleged that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bayo Ojo, SAN, has refused to honour his promise to make available the proof of evidence to his defence team.

In a letter to Ojo dated October 26, Keyamo said the Minister was yet to fulfill the promise made on October 6, 2005 during the arraignment of his client before Justice Babs Kuewumi on a five count treason charge.
Consequently, Keyamo said the following people should also be subpoenaed to testify.

Senior Special Assistant to President Olusegun Obasanjo on Media, Mrs. Remi Oyo, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, Director of the State Security Service (SSS), Colonel Kayode Are; Chukwuemeka Chikelu; Mr. Fuburaduke of the SSS in Rivers State; Senator Tari Sekibo and Chairman, Okrika local Government area of Rivers state.

Others are Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Prince Secondus; Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rotimi Amaechi; his deputy, Tonye Harry; Mr. Timi Alaibe; Steve Davis; Miebiye Kuromiema; Dr. Judi Thasuni, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, Chief Opaks Harry, Mr. Abiye Harry, Mr. Chris Uba.

Chief of Staff to the President, Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Agbaje of the Rivers State SSS, Mr. Lawrence Alobi, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Staff and the Chief of Naval Staff are also to be summoned. The lawyer averred that sequel to the said meetings, he met with the following people between October 13, 2004 and February, 2005 to implement the amnesty. They include Lieutenant Colonel Aliu, Minister of Defence, Rabiu Kwakwanso, Justice Karibi Whyte, Dr. M.T. Akobo, Mr. Larry Pepple, among others.

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Professor J.T. Princewill Amachere and King Asinmi Pepple, the Amayanabo of Grand Bonny are also to produce document relating to treaties between the British and the People of New Calabar in the 18th century.
