BARELY 24 hours after the demise of the Post Master General of the Federation, Alhaji Abubakar Musa Argungu in the Bellview Air disaster, Mr. Victor Madojutola, Deputy Postmaster General in charge of Operations and Planning, favoured to take over from him, died in the early hours of yesterday following a protracted illness.
ABUJA - BARELY 24 hours after the demise of the Post Master General of the Federation, Alhaji Abubakar Musa Argungu in the Bellview Air disaster, Mr. Victor Madojutola, Deputy Postmaster General in charge of Operations and Planning, favoured to take over from him, died in the early hours of yesterday following a protracted illness.
Minister of Communications, Chief Cornelius Adebayo, at the residence of the late Argungu prayed for the repose of the soul of the late NIPOST chief, describing him in glowing terms as an honest, hardworking and dedicated man who worked relentlessly for the service of the nation.
The late Musa Argungu along with his management has turned around the fortunes of the organization which almost became moribund since his appointment as the Postmaster General of NIPOST and got re-appointed for second term of five years this year by President Olusegun Obasanjo following his enviable track record in transforming the foremost postal organization in Africa.
By his re-appointment, Alhaji Argungu became the first Postmaster General to get a second term since NIPOST was established in 1985 following the split of the defunct post and telecommunications department.
Argungu was born 52 years ago in Argungu, Kebbi State. He graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a degree in Business Administration. He began his public service career as a teacher with the Sokoto Local Education Authority from where he joined the Usman Dan Fodio University as an Executive Officer (Accounts) in 1979.
He was at one time the Chief Accountant of National Primary Education Commission for Mass Literacy; Adult and Non formal Education between 1987 and 1991. In 1992, he joined the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) as the Director of Finance and Supplies from where he took employment in 1993 in Nipost as a Senior Assistant Postmaster General. He was later appointed the deputy Postmaster General in charge of finance and investment in 1996, a position he held until December 1999 when he was appointed the Acting Postmaster General and later confirmed substantive Postmaster General in June 2000.
