Fasehun, Adams to be arraigned for multiple murder

INDICATIONS emerged that detained leaders of the outlawed Oodua Peoples Congress OPC, Dr. Frederick Fasehun and Mr. Gani Adams may be arraigned in court Monday on a two-count charge of multiple murder and conspiracy to commit murder following the recent clash in Iyana Ipaja Lagos between members of the factions which claimed over ten lives.

ABUJA - INDICATIONS emerged that detained leaders of the outlawed Oodua Peoples Congress OPC, Dr. Frederick Fasehun and Mr. Gani Adams may be arraigned in court Monday on a two-count charge of multiple murder and conspiracy to commit murder following the recent clash in Iyana Ipaja Lagos between members of the factions which claimed over ten lives.

Sources close to the Force Headquarters told Vanguard yesterday on the telephone that the legal department of the Force had already concluded arrangements to arraign the duo following pressures that other leaders of ethnic militias who were arrested by the police had since been charged and arraigned.

It was however not too clear whether the duo would be arraigned in Abuja or Lagos, but sources simply said, "arrangements have been concluded to arraign them in court on charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Meanwhile the warring factions of the congress yesterday engaged themselves in a fresh clash in Mushin area of Lagos following speculations that their leaders were among those passengers of the ill-fated Bellview aircraft which claimed 117 persons Saturday. Yesterday clash between members of the factions stalled activities at the ever busy Mushin and environs during which several persons were injured. A building belonging a prominent person in the area was reportedly touched during the fracas which lasted for the better part of the day.

However, the police from Area D and MOPOL 22, arrived the scene and restored sanity. Lagos state police PRO, Mr. Olabode Ojajuni confirmed the clash adding that seven key players of the mayhem had been arrested and taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID Panti Yaba for interrogation.

The police spokesman further said that the suspects would soon be charged and arraigned in court within the existing laws of the land. Dr Fasheun and Ganiu Adams were on Saturday afternoon invited for interrogation by the police in Lagos but were immediately flown to the Force Headquarters Abuja on the orders of the IGP, Mr. Sunday Ehindero following repeated clashes by factions of the Congress in Lagos which had resulted in several deaths.
