The yet to be named baby was born to a family of peasant farmer, Malam Haruna Hassan, in the capital Abuja and is receiving treatment at a specialist hospital, the News Agency of Nigeria reported.
The mother, who wanted not to be named, said that she had serious pains throughout the period of the pregnancy and that all efforts to reduce or eliminate the pains did not yield any result.
Abdulraman Bukar, a medical director, was quoted as saying thatlack of prenatal and antenatal care on the part of the mother might have led to the baby having deformities.
Bukar added some drugs taken by the mother during pregnancy might have contributed to the deformities.
In his reaction, the father appealed to Nigerians to come to the aid of the family by assisting the family to bear the cost of operation that would bring the child to a normal state.
"We are appealing to Nigerians to assist us through donation and other kind gesture so that the abnormalities could be corrected," he said.
