LAGOS - THE police in Lagos yesterday warned that they would henceforth deal ruthlessly with anybody who raises false alarm of kidnap and missing genital organ saying innocent person had been lynched in the process.
It also said it was closing in on those who allegedly masterminded the lynching of an 11 year old boy at the front of the national stadium in Surulere Lagos Tuesday.
The state police boss, Mr. Ade Ajakiaye who held marathon security meeting with his officers yesterday also said at least three persons including a middle aged woman were rescued yesterday in the hands of false alarmists which almost led to their untimely death.
The Police Commissioner who described the death of the 11 year old boy as painful and dehumanizing assured that every logistic had been put in place with a view to tracking down perpetrators of the dastardly act.
He explained that one of the false alarmist identified as Wasiu Kazeem, who accused falsely a lady who sat beside him in a commercial bus with an unknown registration number which they both boarded from Ogba to Ikeja bus stop, had been charged to court immediately for attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
The suspect who was arraigned at the Magistrate Court 3 Ikeja had been remanded in prison custody, Ajakaiye said.
His words: ' the death of the 11 year old boy is painful and the height of man's inhumanity to man. Although the police was not there when the crime was committed, we shall get to the root of the whole thing.
It is painstaking, but we must get those who masterminded the heinous crime. Another woman would have been lynched yesterday (Wednesday) but for the timely arrival of police men on patrol duty of the area. The woman was in a commercial bus with others and was sitting beside a man who gave his name as Wasiu Kazeem.
