'Take anti-corruption crusade to past leaders '

A CHIEFTAIN of the All Nigerian People Party (ANPP)and former Senatorial aspirant in Lagos State, Chief Abayomi Mumuni, has called on the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to extend the anti-corruption crusade to past political leaders in the country.

LAGOS - A CHIEFTAIN of the All Nigerian People Party (ANPP)and former Senatorial aspirant in Lagos State, Chief Abayomi Mumuni, has called on the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to extend the anti-corruption crusade to past political leaders in the country.

Chief Mumuni called on the National Assembly to take urgent steps to remove the immunity clause for elected public officers in order to check the increasing looting of the nation's  treasury and urged the President to critically look into the allegation that several of his aides had lots of property overseas.

In a statement in Lagos, the ANPP Chieftain faulted alleged statement credited to the Abia State governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu that the nation's past should be forgotten in the anti-corruption war and argued that every act of corruption by political leaders in the country whether now or before must be investigated and culprits sanctioned for the nation to move forward.

The ANPP Chieftain advised President Obasanjo to stop playing politics with the lives of council workers in Lagos State by releasing the remaining tranche of the N34 billion fund and stop listening to his sycophants who urge him on without considering the suffering masses which they claim to be serving.

According to him: 'The EFCC should open the books and extend its investigations to cover all previous acts of corruption if the nation must be saved from its ugly past and present corrupt activities of its present crop of leaders if the raging poverty in the land as a result of this epidemic of corruption must be stopped. In this regard, even the President cannot be exempted from previous deeds. The only condition we can forget the past corrupt  attitudes of the leaders is if those concerned can show enough remorse and return the money they have stolen from the nations treasury. We knew they have stolen so much and they should all return their loot. We all knew the President is not a messiah  but all corrupt officials mst be brought to book so that it can be well with the country".
