KADUNA - THE immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Ghali Umar Na'Abba says his constant disagreement with President Olusegun Obasanjo is because he (Na'Abba) want to guide against the current civilan dictatorship which the country is being subjected to.
He said in Kaduna yesterday that it was his insistence that the nation must be saved the agony of dictatorship and practice democracy that constantly pitched him against President Olusegun Obasanjo and lamented that the PDP is being manipulated by a few people.
Also, the former Special Adviser to the President on Food Security, Prof. Ango Abdullahi lamented that founding fathers of the PDP have been sidelined in the party and given no say. Both the former speaker and Prof Ango Abdullahi who spoke at a gathering of Pan Arewa Youths decry last weekend's purported ward and local government congresses of the party as not only a sham, but also a monumental illegality, which cannot be tolerated.
Alhaji Umar Ghali Na'Abba who was the guest speaker at the occasion organise by 'Inuwa Matasa Arewa" highlighted the frustration and disappointment which the Obasanjo administration has come to represent for several party men and other Nigerians. He argued that the recent trend of intra-party manipulations are part of what he foresaw and tried to check before running into trouble with the presidency while he was the head of the lower chamber of the National Assembly, and expressed regrets about the current state of affairs within PDP. 'We now have a full-blown civilian dictatorship which I warned against some three to four years ago.
Today, the PDP has become so arrogant that it has no respect for the courts. 'No member of its National Working Committee (NWC) today was ever elected by anybody. All of them are an extension of the Presidential Villa and far from being independent. The party is owned by the President, and founding members like Ekwueme, Awoniyi ...and even Audu Ogbeh cannot find a place in the party any more, Na'Abba said.
