Students of various departments of Alvan Ikoku College of Education (AICE) Owerri, especially those in the Accountancy department have debunked the negative story bordering on sexual escapades associated with one lecturer in the department, saying that it was a figment of imagination and sponsored by his detractors.
The students who confided in this publication when a visit was made to the institution recently, described the lecturer as a "hardworking, calm and responsible gentleman who cannot stoop so low to engage in that kind of mess".
They even leveled an allegation against one head of department, claiming that he masterminded the campaign of calumny against the above lecturer, because he felt he kicked against him when his department was shopping for a replacement for former Head of Department (HOD).
It was also alleged that the same HOD on several occasions donated questionable marks to girls who clearly failed their
courses, an indulgence which gave room for suspicion.
One of the rumours being peddled against the said lecturer, though unfounded, was that female students were always found in his office. But investigations carried out, revealed that students who had one thing or the other to sort out with their lecturers, either in form of assignments or projects were found in their lecturers' offices. "It is a common thing and even normal in higher institutions of learning. Heaping it on one man is a calculated attempt to rubbish him", the students chorused.
Some lecturers spoken with also debunked the sex story and went ahead to scold the harbingers of such story and advised them to desist from dragging the hard earned good name of the institution to the mud.
Meanwhile, when The Telegraph cornered the Provost of the College, Professor Cletus Ngozi Uwazuruike on the issue, he said investigations were still on and assured that those found guilty would be punished accordingly.
