An Ijaw group, the Southern Ijaw Coalition has advised the President of Ijaw National Congress(INC), Professor Kimse Okocha and the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information, Barrister Oronto Douglas, to be on the side of truth in the travails of Governor Depreye Alamieyesigha, instead of insisting that he was framed up by the presidency.
In a statement by the Ijaw Southern Coalition signed by the National Secretary, Chief David Africa Peneowei Peretoru said â??in the light of the travails of the governor, the duo of Oronto Douglas of Environmental Rights Arrangement (ERA), Chicoco Movement, Constitutional Conference 2005 and Prof Kimse Okoko, former Marxist and President of Ijaw National Congress both supposed proponents for RESOURCE CONTROL have seen no wrong in the looting of Bayelsa State by D. S. P. Alamieyeseigha and family which has resulted in the arrest and trial of the latter in London."
The group in blaming Oronto and Okoko for seeking a diplomatic option to salvage the governor said "They have even gone a step forward by hounding our elders such as Alfred Diette-Spiff and Melford Okilo in uncharitable campaigns such as(as reported in the media) going to meet with the British High Commissioner and promising to go and see the Queen and beg her to intervene in subverting the British legal system and release Alamieyeseigha currently facing criminal charges â?¦what a shame."
They alleged that Oronto was benefiting from the lies, he was dishing out to the Ijaws that the travails of Chief Alamieyesigha is from the Presidency, asking "did the presidency put the money over N264 million in his house, what is the money doing in the Governor's London residence, Is it part of Bayelsa State treasury?"
According to the Southern Coalition "If they say they stand for truth, are they saying that a perimeter fence should cost N7.5 billion? The contract for the perimeter fencing of the new Bayelsa Government House was awarded to Obadaves Limited for an initial sum of N1.8billion which was then later reviewed upward to N7.5billion .As we speak the sum of N6billion has been paid out and the job is not yet completed. So, who is fooling who."
The group stated that looting of government treasury and money laundering was not the full concept of resource control asking "Our resource control proponents, Oronto and Okoko, what manner of fence is this, to warrant an expenditure of N7billion.Is the fence a designer fence probably built by Giorgio Armani the famed clothes designer?"
They group compared the contract for the fencing of the Bayelsa State Government which is costing over N7.6 to the construction of over 28 kilometer of roads from Ogbia to Nembia by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC)) costing N6 billion.
Also querying the duo of Oronto and Okoko, the Ijaw grop asked "Are the duo Oronto and Okoko also saying that Alamieyeseighaâ??s stepson Victor Sammy through the family company S. J. Veco Limited is now an electrical genius to be awarded a N850million contract for the extension of the gas turbine to Amassoma. A boy that has never had any working experience in any corporate environment"
In this regard, they said "We are of the opinion that since the duo Marxist Okoko and Environmentalist Oronto have chosen a path of dishonor by abandoning the ideals the Civil rights movements, Political Economy school of thought, the Kaiama declaration stood for, and those who died while propagating its values such as Chima Ubani .They should do so alone and not black mail our elders and race into acts that demean all they have used all their lively years to build.
"we wish to borroww a leaf from a famed patriot Balarabe Musa and remind Oronto and Okoko that judgement will be on three fronts: Before the People, Prosterity and God."
