Following the recent quizzing of Secretary to Adamawa State Government (SSG), Alhaji Ibrahim Bapetel by officials of Economic and Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged corrupt practices, the State Governor Boni Haruna has approved the appointment of Mr. Pithon P. Power as acting SSG.

The Governor has also approved the appointment of Mr. Elkanah Lawal as the acting Principal Private Secretary (PPS) to him and Alhaji Yusuf Dan-Umma as Special Assistant to the Governor on Mobilization and Conflict Resolution.
A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Alhaji Abdulrazzak Namdas explained that the acting SSG would be sworn-in today, at 10:am.
In a related development, Governor Boni Haruna has also approved the appointment of Mr. J.C. Usman Bukar as the Accountant-General of Adamawa State as well as the appointment of Mrs. Aratu David Barau as Deputy Accountant-General.
A release signed by Chairman, Adamawa State Civil Service Commission, Mr. Wilberforce Endaity, said the appointment followed the retirement of the former Accountant-General, Mr. Emmanuel Vahela who was also recently allegedly interrogated by officials of the EFCC. It added that the appointments are with immediate effect.
It would be recalled that men of the EFCC stormed Yola, the Adamawa state capital last Friday and has since then been quizzing top government officials in respect of allegation of financial crimes and other corrupt practices leveled against them.
No fewer than five top government functionaries have been invited to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the State Police Command for questioning even as the special crime busters have impounded vehicles and other belongings suspected to be ill-gotten wealth, with some deposited at the CID office under strict guard by heavily armed policemen.
The EFCC operation was however, not without complaints from members of the public who viewed the mode of operations as without civility, hostile and embarrassing to not only the suspects but also innocent people and journalists performing their legitimate duties.
The leader of the team to Adamawa State, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ibrahim Magu who reacted to the allegation of high-handedness of the operators said it was not true that his men did not consider the integrity of those quizzed for questioning and apologized for the alleged brutality and arrest of the reporter and video camera man of NTA Yola, confirming that the video camera and its operator has since been released from their custody.
He further denied rumours that men of the Commission were harassing and intimidating innocent people who had nothing to do with their operations, emphasizing that no one died as a result of their operations in the state as carried by BBC news bulletin and some national dailies (not including THISDAY).
