Horror! 20 perish in road mishap

Residents and commuters plying the ever-busy Ibadan/Ife expressway woke up to another gory scene Tuesday morning, around Asejire area of the road where a fatal accident claimed no less than 20 people.

Residents and commuters plying the ever-busy Ibadan/Ife expressway woke up to another gory scene Tuesday morning, around Asejire area of the road where a fatal accident claimed no less than 20 people.

The accident, which occurred about 3 a.m., involved two luxury buses, a Toyota Hiace and a trailer.

The accident scene was a horrible sight as mangled bodies, disjointed human parts and blood littered the whole place.

Some of the lucky survivors told Daily Sun that one of the luxury buses, which took off from Lagos, left its own side of the dual-carriage way for the opposing traffic lane from Ife end.

In the process, the luxury bus collided with another one believed to have left Kano for Lagos, while the trailer and Hiace bus later ran into them.

The early morning accident saw men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the State Police Command led by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Moses Omo Anegbode, as well as men of the State Fire Brigade, giving helping hands to the affected passengers. No fewer than 30 persons were taken to different hospitals in the state.

The accident also put a temporary stop to the activities of the state government as the Deputy Governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala led a team of government officials to the scene of the accident.

The deputy governor betrayed emotions at the scene of the accident as he wept openly.

Mr Joshua Adekanye, Head of Operations of the Oyo State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), attributed the accident to the harmattan haze and poor visibility that have enveloped the country in the last four days.

While cautioning motorists to be careful and speed less, Adekanye, however, called all on road users to learn a bitter lesson from the accident.
The FRSC official also used the occasion to reiterate the call for the cancellation of night journeys by the luxury buses.

Six people had lost their lives on the eve of the New Year when a trailer vehicle conveying a tractor collided ram into the pedestrian bridge opposite Bola Ige International Market.

Sokari doesn’t mean joy. Joy is Biobela. Go to the village and ask the meaning of the name.
