EFCC to screen nominees for national award

NOMINEES for this year's national award are to be screened by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission and the Anti-Corruption Commission.

ABUJA - NOMINEES for this year's national award are to be screened by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission and the Anti-Corruption Commission. The Minister of Special Duties, Col Musa Mohammed (rtd) disclosed this in Abuja at the weekend while speaking with newsmen over the delay in the release of the names of those to be conferred with the honours.

According to him, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Department of State Services and the Nigerian Intelligence agency would also render collaborative services in checking at the records of the nominees.

The Minister noted that the clearance was important in order to ensure that men and women of proven integrity are conferred with national honours so as to avert a situation where some of those honoured in the past were later found out to be involved in fraudulent and corrupt practices. He disclosed that over 200 nominees were expected to be honoured this year, that the lists had already been forwarded to the various agencies by the Ministry following the submission of the Committee set up to harmonize the recommendations from every State.
'The national honour is for people who have made their marks in life, people who served this country diligently. People who have done well in their own field.
