PRISTINA, Serbia-Montenegro A U-N police vehicle has exploded in Kosovo, killing an international police officer from Nigeria. Authorities believe a bomb caused the blast.
This is the first time a U-N officer had been killed in a suspected car bombing in Kosovo.
The blast occurred as the officer was driving to work this morning -- about 50 miles from the province's capital of Pristina.
A top U-N official calls the death a "very tragic incident" and says he's "shocked" at what happened. An investigation is under way.
About 35-hundred international police officers serve in the U-N force, which was deployed in Kosovo in mid-1999 when the mission started to administer the province.
