Two top officials of the Adamawa State government have been arrested in Yola by men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Two top officials of the Adamawa State government have been arrested in Yola by men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Mr John Elias, the Commissioner for Finance and the Principal Private Secretary, PPS to Governor Boni Haruna, Alhaji Tukur Muazu were picked up in their offices Friday afternoon.
The duo now being quizzed were first driven to their private residences in an 18- seater Bus AU 330 YAB before they were taken to the State CID where they are being detained.
The eight-man EFCC team led by a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP when accosted at the premises of the Adamawa State Police Command declined comment.
But, the O/C CID Adamawa State Police Command, Mr. Dibal Yakadi (ACP) told newsmen that the 'EFCC officials arrived Yola from Abuja this morning (Friday) and we have started assisting them with the information and investigation they are looking for".
ACP Dibal said 'the EFCC came in for some government officials and they have gotten some and will visit the rest later".
The two arrested top government officials were said to have been hand cuffed from their offices to their private residences where thorough search were conducted.
Earlier, at the residence of the embattled Commissioner for Finance, journalists who got wind of the arrest thronged the place in large number despite harassment by the EFCC.
The situation almost degenerated into serious confusion and the NTA Yola crew had their camera seized along with some correspondents tape recorders and were taken to the police headquarter, but later released on the orders of the Commissioner.
It will be recalled that Mr. John Elias, the Commissioner for Finance was recently petitioned for alleged sleaze and corruption.
The petitioner an elder statesmen, a former speaker, Adamawa House of Assembly, a former Minister and top PDP notcher, Mr. Paul Wampana alleged that the embattled Commissioner have assets in Yola, Abuja, Mubi, Maiduguri, Gombi, Jos and elsewhere worth billions of naira.
