ABUJA—SMARTING from the recent impeachment of his former deputy for alleged disloyalty, Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has advised Vice President Atiku Abubakar to know that his continued stay as Vice president is at the mercy of President Obasanjo.
Governor Fayose gave this advice yesterday while speaking with some newsmen in Abuja after formally presenting his new Deputy, Adebisi Omoyeni to President Olusegun Obasanjo.
According to him, it would be foolish of any deputy to doubt the source of power either at the State or Federal level.
Recalling his experience with his former Deputy, Abiodun Aluko, the Governor said that it had become clear to him that a politician must always pick a technocrat as Deputy.
“I will advise Nigerians, God knows, now and in the future, to always pick technocrats as Deputy.
“While the Governor faces his political career, along side running of government, you pick somebody who has what it takes to run the government along side with you, when you are doing your own politics the man keeps the government focused.
“Well what I'm saying is to the entire Nigerians, Atiku (Vice President) himself realizes that this thing will put him into trouble, that his future ambition will put him into all this.
“If he is a technocrat, it will be safer for him, he would rather concentrate on his work, he will say I am terminating as a vice president, except the president needs my service again.
“In this our game, it is our mouth that puts us into trouble and those who surround us. They will tell you, it is our time to act, act now, if you don’t, they will be cheating you, it is your right, what right has a deputy or Vice President? He disclosed that he consulted God in the choice of his new deputy and that he was confident that the new man would run government properly. “You should understand that in this game, there is no permanent enemy, there is no permanent friend.”
