The Nigerian government is to intervene to avert a strike action by junior workers of ChevronTexaco Nigeria, the local unit of U.S. oil company, ChevronTexaco (CVX), a union leader told Dow Jones Newswires Friday.

LAGOS -(Dow Jones)- The Nigerian government is to intervene to avert a strike action by junior workers of ChevronTexaco Nigeria, the local unit of U.S. oil company, ChevronTexaco (CVX), a union leader told Dow Jones Newswires Friday.

The Warri Zone of blue-collar National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas workers, or Nupeng, had threatened to embark on a strike if their demands weren't met after a three-day ultimatum that expires Friday.

A strike by the Warri Zone of ChevronTexaco's employees could affect its operations in the Escravos and offshore locations, including the lifting of crude oil from its terminals.
