NUPENG gives Chevron 72 hours ultimatum to withdraw sack letters

The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has given American oil giant, Chevron Nigeria Limited 72 hours to withdraw sack letters it issued to workers of Jececo, an oil servicing company or face an industrial action.

The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has given American oil giant, Chevron Nigeria Limited 72 hours to withdraw sack letters it issued to workers of Jececo, an oil servicing company or face an industrial action.

A letter signed by Warri Zonal chairman and Assistant General Secretary of NUPENG, William Akporeha and Joseph Ogbelor, described the sack and demobilisation letters as uncalled for, adding that it was fraught with monumental irregularities as far as good labour practice was concerned.
He accused the authority of Joceco company of conniving with its principal, Chevron Nigeria Limited, to terminate the oppointment of workers of the oil servicing company.

Consequently, the leaders said the letters were provocative, ill timed and embellished with high doses of vindictive tendencies.

The NUPENG helmsmen said for peace to reign, the vexatious letters should be withdrawn with immediate effect and that the management of Chevron should keep faith with the ongoing negotiation between Joceco management and the workers.

"There should be stoppage from changing of contractor, for now until all pending industrial relations between Joceco and workers are fully concluded. There should be a stoppage of the practical test and interviews of persons being carried out by Chevron to possibly replace Jececo workers," the union leaders warned.
