NYSC Sensitises Members

Federal Government has said that the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) was poised to take the lead in the promotion of effective service delivery in the country.

In view of this, the NYSC has set necessary machinery in motion to embrace SERVICOM with a sensitization programme flagged off recently at the NYSC Camp, Iyana-Ipaja Lagos state, targeted at the 2005 Batch "B" Corps members as a prelude to series of other activities in the organisation.

Through this, the organisation seeks to achieve effective services through quality services being rendered by its corps members who are spread out all over the Federation as well as through enhanced prompt and timely services the entire staff of the NYSC organisation render to its various publics.

Speaking on behalf of the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Yusuf Bomoi, the Lagos state Co-coordinator, Mrs.† Clera Aramede Babatunde, said the objective of the NYSC SERVICOM Sensitisation programme for corps members was to create awareness of NYSC Service Compact with all Nigerians; impart on corps members the basic knowledge of the Service Compact; promote corps members for effective and efficient service delivery and to lead corps members through practical talk on some aspect of the service compact.

"As the objectives show, corps members are required to have a clear understanding of servicom so as to serve Nigerians better", Babatunde said.

The details of servicom as borne out in service delivery, she said were to be seen in the elements of timeless, fairness, honesty, effectiveness and transparency, adding, "the orientation course, therefore takes cognisance of you receiving adequate preparation aimed at making you deliver efficient service".

As agents of the social change, Babatunde exhorted the corp members to effect positive changes in their host communities by leaving them better than they met them.

She expressed hope that the sensitisation programme would make a vivid case for the moral imperative of efficient service delivery, using corps members.
While delivering a lecture on the topic, "The Challenges of Effective Service Delivery by Corps Members", the Principal Administrative Officer, (PAO), NYSC DHQ, Abuja, Mr. Oliyide Oluremi said that the service delivery agenda in Nigeria can be viewed as a response and adaptation to global trend.

"Indeed, the service compact (Servicom) of the Federal Government of Nigeria which promised to deliver basic services to all Nigerians in a timely, fair, honest, effective and transparent manner is stereotypical of the UK Charter Programmes (Citizen Charter and Public Charter)".
