ABUJA - 2004 Exam Malpractice rating of States and Geo-political zones of Exam Ethics Projects shows that in spite of all efforts put in place by Exam Ethics Project between 2003 to 2004, exam malpractice increased by 40% in Nigeria. Kebbi state tops the list of exam malpractice rating, while Yobe came first as the most ethnic-friendly state.
The Chairman of Exam Ethics Project, Mr. Ike Onyechere who disclosed this to journalists in Abuja, on 2004 exam malpractice rating of states and geo-political zones, said that the analysis shows that exam malpractice increased from 4.5 in 1999 to 16.9 in 2004, an increase of 27%.
He said, "South-South geo-political zone took the first position in examination malpractice rating with an index of 26.92 while North-East zone emerged the most ethnic friendly with an index of 8.72".
He noted that for the past three years, (2002, 2003, and 2004), the south-South has maintained the first position in exam malpractice rating, adding that the south-East and North-Central zone have maintained the 2nd and 3rd position respectively for three years under review.
"In South-South zone, Cross River state took the first position in exam malpractice rating with Akwa Ibom state, came second. Delta state retained its position as the most ethnic-friendly state in the zone with Rivers State as runner up. In South-east zone, Abia state took the first position in exam malpractice rating with Enugu state came second. Anambra state retained its position as the most ethnic-friendly state in the zone with Ebonyi state as runner up, he said.
Adding, "In North-Central, Kogi state took the first position in exam malpractice as was the case in 2002 and 2003. Benue state came second in EMI rating for 2004. FCT emerged as the most ethnic-friendly state in the zone with Plateau state as runner up. In North-East, Borno state came first in exam malpractice rating. Adamawa state which was the most ethnic-friendly state in 2003 came second in EMI rating for 2004. Yobe, which is the most ethnic-friendly state nationwide, of course was the least ethnic-friendly state in the zone with Gombe as runner up".
