The former commissioner for Works and Transport during Chinwoke Mbadinuju's administration in Anambra State Prince Kenneth Emeakayi has been abducted by unknown people.

According to Emeakayi's counsel, Mr. Ikenna Obidiegwu, in a five-paragraph petition to the police commissioner in Anambra Mr. Felix Ugbaudu dated Oct.1, 2005 and made available to newsmen in Awka, the former commissioner was abducted on the 29th of Sept at Nnewi-Nnobi Awka road.

Obidiegwu in a press conference said Emeakanyi was abducted on his way back to his hometown Okija from Awka where he went for some transactions.

Emekanyi's wife who could not hold back tears was contacted she explained that her husband left home on Sept. 29, 2005 and since then had neither returned nor called them on phone as usual.

The counsel explained further that Emeakanyi returned from Abuja on Wednesday, 28, 2005 where he went to attend political meetings and on 29, 2005 some plain cloth policemen came to his home to ransack everywhere and could only tell him that a petition was written against him by people they refused to reveal.

Obidiegwu also claimed that before the incident his client had informed him about some life threatening phone calls he received from unknown people.

He said that on Friday 30,sept. 2005, he received a text message from unknown person which reads " your brother and your client Kenneth Emeakanyi was attacked yesterday by unknown people on this Nnewi,Nimo, road. Am afraid talking on this matter any further. Please I only felt that Ken was too nice for this to be happening to him without people knowing, hence my decision to alert you".

The counsel said that every effort to reach the person through the number the text message came proved abortive as nobody could pick the handset.

Obidiegwu in his petition to the police commissioner enjoined him to as a matter of urgency set up investigation toward unraveling the mystery of Emekakanyi disappearance and bring the perpetrators to book.

However, the Anambra police command spokesman, Mr Kolapo Shofolowe confirmed receiving phone calls from the public on the matter and stated that police had made efforts to contact Emeakanyi on his mobile phones but to no avail.

He said that the police would soon commence full investigation into the abduction assertion of Emeakanyi.

"You see, we have received many phone calls from the public over the disappearance of Emeakanyi. Some said he was killed and dumped into one of the rivers and some claimed he was abducted. We are already swinging into action and I assure you that justice will be done".

It will be recalled that Prince Emekeanyi was allegedly accused of masterminding the killing of Barrister Igwe and wife fomer NBA chairman Onitsha branch during the Governor Mbadinujus era
