Bayelsa State House of Assembly may not resume session until their Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha is released by the London Metropolitan Police.
Alamieyeseigha was recently arrested in London for an alleged money laundering offence.
Sources at the Assembly said in Yenagoa that the lawmakers had already been divided over the arrest of the governor.
According to the source, those loyal to Alamieyeseigha, who feared they might be under pressure to impeach him, lobbied for extension of the recess while others were against the move.
Another Assembly source, however said that the lawmakers had to go for the recess to avoid being interrogated by the EFCC over the alleged sum of money they received for constituency projects.
