Tinubu to Leaders: Don't Play God

Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu yesterday told Nigerian leaders to stop belabouring themselves on who must succeed them and emphasised that it was only God that could determine occupiers of any political office at any point in time.

Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu yesterday told Nigerian leaders to stop belabouring themselves on who must succeed them and emphasised that it was only God that could determine occupiers of any political office at any point in time.

Tinubu who spoke at the commissioning of the Radio Lagos/EKO FM website, held in Ikeja, added that it was shameful that at a time when Nigeria enjoyed unprecedented oil boom, the country wallowed in poverty and hunger.

He reiterated that he would not be cowed into silence by the powers that be, who had resorted to cheap blackmail and threats against him.

'I have the support of the people who elected me into power to always speak out against all forms of injustices.

'It is our right to enjoy freedom, it is our right to ask for liberation, it is our right to talk to our leaders, it is our right to conquer poverty, it is our right to criticise them because we elected them.

'We need a generational change, we have to work for it. We have to lend our voice to that change at the risk of loosing every thing that we have. No one can intimidate me. I don't belong to a slave camp. I am not afraid of no one except God."

He described the launch of Radio Lagos /EKO FM website as another major leap in the efforts of my administration to modernise broadcasting and take advantage of modern technology to reach interested listeners in all parts of the globe.

Tinubu added that in the area of culture and tradition, our children abroad would have the opportunity to learn about our social values and virtues and provide the missing link in teaching them our language, proverbs and important festivals.

In addition, Nigerians around the world would have the opportunity to contribute to programmes through phone-in which made positive contributions to the development of their fatherland.

The Governor added that the latest initiative of the Lagos State Government would also give ample opportunities to our young ones to explore their potentials to the fullest.

Earlier in an address, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Dele Alake said all the policies of Tinubu are informed by his progressive inclination which gives an insight into the shape of the future.
