A CLERGYMAN, Reverend Omotunde Ewuola, has said that the country's forty-fifth anniversary should not only be a time for jubilation but for sober reflection.
A CLERGYMAN, Reverend Omotunde Ewuola, has said that the country's forty-fifth anniversary should not only be a time for jubilation but for sober reflection.
Ewuola, who made this call in Lagos, however urged Nigerians to go back to the drawing board by moving closer to God who has enabled the country to witness another independence anniversary.
Ewuola said "we thank God who has been our help in the ages past. He has made it possible for the country and myself to attain the age of forty-five years. The celebration should be a time for sober reflection and there is also that need for us to go back to the drawing board and back to our God. For us in this country to forge ahead, we need to be truthful in all that we do".
He emphasized the need for the country's leadership to formulate policies that will positively affect the lives of the citizenry even as he called on the Christian community to pray for the country.
His words: "In order to move the country forward, there is the need to x-ray the style of leadership. I believe we don't have democracy which according to definition is government of the people, by the people and for the people. And in assessing the present leadership, I can see that the instinct of being an ex-military leader is still very much in him; I still believe that the leader that'll move this country forward should be one that'll hearken to the voice of the people. Nigerians are lavishing in poverty, they are dying from hunger and in solving these numerous problems, the current leadership needs to look within and see how the problems of the masses could be solved."
In addition, he stated that "There are so many strategies of which the Christian community has intervened in order for the country to feel its impact and one of which is fasting and prayers; the Bible says that the hearts of kings is in the control of God because God created them. Another area I believe is necessary for the Christian community to dwell on, is for them to let the leaders know what God expects them to do, that is the duty of the Christians to perform."
