PALPABLE tension now enveloped Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, following the protracted crisis between the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Sulu Gambari and his high chiefs.
The monarch had sacked three high chiefs namely Balogun Gambari, Alhaji Abdulkareem Laaro Buhari, Balogun Alanamu, Alhaji Shuaib Adio Mahmud and Baba Isale of Iloirn, Alhaji Saka Aleshinloye over allegations of disloyalty, disobedience, character assassination, announced their replacements, and also filled the existing vacant offices
It would be recalled that for close to two decades, the king-makers have been at logger heads with the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Sulu Gambari over the sharing of federal allocations accrued to the traditional chiefs from the Emirate local governments, namely Ilorin South, Ilorin East, Moro and Asa local governments, which they alleged the monarch had been collecting without considering them among other differences between the two parties.
The lingering differences blew open when the Baloguns petitioned the Presidency and other government agencies, including important individuals at both the state and local governments, to intervene before the matter degenerated. Sunday Vanguard however gathered that following the publicisation of the matter, The Emir had queried the Baloguns over the steps taken, before they were relieved of their appointments Friday night, and another sets of High Chiefs appointed.
