Man Utd boss steps up Obi pursuit

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson visited Norwegian club Lyn Oslo on Monday to press the club's claim for the transfer of Nigeria midfielder John Mikel Obi.

Obi is due to leave Lyn for Old Trafford in January 2006, after the end of the Norwegian season, but has stated his intention to play for Chelsea instead.

"We have an agreement with Lyn Oslo, have followed John Mikel Obi for three years and still want him to come to Manchester United," Ferguson told newspaper Verdens Gang.

The 18-year-old, who won the Silver Ball at the World Youth Championship in Holland, signed for Manchester United on 29 April.

But the deal was thrown into doubt when Obi said that he had been put under pressure to sign a deal reportedly worth £4m and absconded from Lyn in May.

Absent from work at Lyn for over three months, Obi returned to the club at the start of September, after Fifa said the player "has to immediately resume duties with Lyn Oslo FC."
