Though so many things have happened to our people in the past eighteen months on so but God has been faithful by helping us to build back again", so said Mrs. Soye Aroloyeteim I. Brown, wife of the chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area (ASALGA) when she addressed children and their parents at the council's end of year party on Friday, 24th December, 2004.
Mrs. Brown enjoined parents and guardians to imbibe the old values of hardwork, honesty, respect for elders and the fear of God in their children and words to help build a better future devoid of cultism and the form of violence that engulfed the area, especially Buguma, the council headquarters and traditional capital of the Kalabari kingdom.
To the children who spent over four hours in a spate of fun, dance and eating spree, the ASALGA Chairman's wife charged them to listen to the guidance and instructions given to them as they grow, in the hope that such tips would always bring out the best in them.
Underscoring the significance of peace in the lives of everyone, the chairman of the council, Hon. Aroloyeteim Brown, JP remarked that the council's Xmas Party for children was one of the best things that took place recently in the city of Buguma, noting that but for the return of peace to the area, it would have been impossible.
Thee council boss thus reiterated the call for peaceful conduct and the return of co-operative communal living for the good of the entire kingdom.
Again, Brown renewed his plea with those who fled the Buguma community in the repeated crises in November 2003 and last year to return home and join hands with the chiefs, women, youths and government at all levels in efforts to reposition that area for forward movement.
There was so much funfare at the party, which featured such events as catching the train, boys competing on ladies headgears and other dances. At the end of the prize presentations to the eventual winners of the different events, the first lady, Soye Brown presented special exercise books, umbrellas and other memorabilia's to the children who graced the occasion.
