Governor Atahiru Bafarawa of Sokoto State has made a donation of N20m, on behalf of the state government to the Ahmadu Bello University, (ABU) Zaria to help the institution solve some of her pressing problems.
Governor Atahiru Bafarawa of Sokoto State has made a donation of N20m, on behalf of the state government to the Ahmadu Bello University, (ABU) Zaria to help the institution solve some of her pressing problems.
Receiving the Vice Chancellor of ABU in his office Thursday, Governor Bafarawa who described the financial state of the university as retarding called on other governors in Northern Nigeria to come to the aid of the institution.
"If we northerners will allow anything to collapse here, certainly it is not the ABU. It is the responsibility of every one in the north to better the lot of that institution'.
Describing the task as a challenge to all the 19 northern states governors, the Bafarawa said he would try all he could to convince his colleagues to be making monthly donations to the University as a way of helping it grow.
Governor Bafarawa added that the N20m he donated was only for a start assuring that he would "donate more after he had discussed with his colleagues in the north on how best to assist the university".
Bafarawa who described, ABU as mother of all educational institutions in the north called on all well-to-do citizens of this country are products of the institution to assist the university so as not to allow their house to collapse.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of ABU, Professor Sheik Usman Abdullahi told the governor that the university was in a financial mess and urgently needed the assistance of all the governors of northern Nigeria.
