No fewer than five persons of the same family lost their lives as a result of a ghastly motor accident involving a trailer and a Toyota starlet along Akwanga-Lafia road on Wednesday.
No fewer than five persons of the same family lost their lives as a result of a ghastly motor accident involving a trailer and a Toyota starlet along Akwanga-Lafia road on Wednesday.
According to an eyewitness account, a trailer conveying grains from the north to the southern part of the country lost control of its brakes at the point of the disaster and hit the Toyota starlet car with five occupants and dragged all of them into a ditch.
It was also gathered that all the occupants of the car died while one person inside the trailer also died.
Another vehicle believed to belong to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) also crashed in the same area shortly after the accident and one death was recorded.
The corpses were taken to Akwanga General Hospital. It ws later gathered that relatives of some of the decased claimed their corpses, while the remains of a woman and one other whose identity was not known were yet to be claimed.
The Akwanga-Lafia road has become a death trap as at least two lives are lost almost everyday in auto crash, a development people of the area and users of the road attribute to the bad state of the prominent highway.
Some people told Saturday Sun in a chat that unless the federal government repairs the road or dualise it, the spate of deaths on the road would not have an end. They called on drivers tha ply the road to always be very careful in order help reduce the level of casualty onand carnage on the road.
The unit Commander Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Akwanga, Mr. Fred Okoh confirmed the incident and warned drivers plying the road to apply more care and caution. Okoh expressed his unit's commitment to reduce the rate of accidents on roads in the area in order to make lives of travellers safer.
