8 Killed in Communal Clash


About eight people including two women and six men lost their lives in a communal clash involving Ufut village and Ikot Ana in Biase Local Government area of Cross River State.

About eight people including two women and six men lost their lives in a communal clash involving Ufut village and Ikot Ana in Biase Local Government area of Cross River State.


However, the state House of Assembly yesterday passed a resolution, directing the state Commissioner of Police and Director of State Security Services to compel the village head of Ikot Ana and the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area to appear before the Assembly on Tuesday next week.


Speaking on the matter on the floor of the Assembly yesterday, the council Chairman, Mr. Egwu Arong, said he took prompt action to contact both the police and other relevant agencies to forestall the crises, hence the matter would have become uncontrollable without the efforts he made.


According to him, he admitted that the communal clashes were more of traditional in nature than official, adding that although the remote causes of the crises was not known to him.


Arong told the Assembly that Ufut village has been totally destroyed, leaving only a church building and a primary school.
