New Delhi: In the biggest-ever seizure of heroin at the Indira Gandhi international airport in the capital, three Nigerian nationals were arrested on Wednesday for carrying 17.62 kg of heroin worth Rs 18 million ($410,630).
The heroin was hidden inside 22 pairs of shoes, children's books and ladies purses, customs officials said.
The seizure was made when the consignment was passing through the X-ray machines.
The accused, identified as Obi Basin Chuks, Edward Chukwubile and Akabuogu Godwin Ojimba, were coming from Kabul and were on way to Ethiopia.
The arrests were made on the basis of the profiles prepared earlier of suspected individuals, officials said. They, however, were surprised at the size of the consignment seized.
Initial investigations in the case revealed that the trio had also made several visits to Pakistan while they were in Kabul.
