The Ikwerre Youths Ethnic Movement, an affiliate of the Niger Delta Vigilante has expressed dismay over what it says is an attempt to rubbish Comrade Ateke Tom.
The group in a statement signed by Comrade Kingsley Amadi, President of the movement, Comrade Godswill Ihunwo, Secretary and Comrade Chima Nnodim, Public Relations Officer said their leader has been preaching peace since the Federal Government brokered peace.
They noted that it was rather unfortunate that his name had been linked erroneously to the recent violence that erupted in parts of Port Harcourt.
The Ikwerre Youths Ethnic Movement blamed recent disturbances on problems caused by some former members of the Vigilante who are in no mood to entertain the peace effort of the government.
They accused some unnamed government officials of being some of the brains behind the renewed crisis.
The group accused an operative of the SSS, (name withheld) of cooperating with one of the cult gangs known as Outlaws. They alleged that one Yellow Man has been going around in military uniform and allegedly committing atrocities.
Turning to the alleged quarrel between Soboma George and Charlie Bum, the Ikwerre Youths Ethnic Movement disclosed that Comrade Ateke Tom has commenced a reconciliation bid to end their feud. They appealed to the State Government to do its utmost to restore peace. So far, since the police declared some persons wanted, there has been a measure of calm in the troubled parts of Port Harcourt city
