Fear of the EFCC grips Bayelsa politicians... As many of them allegedly go underground


The fear of the EFCC has overrun Bayelsa State following reports that operatives of the dreaded agency set up by President Olusegun Obasanjo would return to the capital, Yenagoa soon.

The fear of the EFCC has overrun Bayelsa State following reports that operatives of the dreaded agency set up by President Olusegun Obasanjo would return to the capital, Yenagoa soon.


Already, three key finance officials have been rounded up and detained while there are reports that some others who were supposed to be picked up during the first raid narrowly escaped.


Our sources hinted that the Commissioner of Transport and Adviser on transport matters popularly known as "T.O" were among those who beat the EFCC men to it.
One source revealed that "T.O" managed to scale a wall as the EFCC men swooped on him but we have not able to obtain any other confirmation of this.


Local people told this publication that most top government functionaries have since deserted their offices for fear that they may be targeted by the EFCC.
The Bayelsa Government has reacted, sharply criticizing the EFCC for what it believes is an unjustified act of intimidation against it.


But in a statement by the CNPP, the opposition in the State said the recent raid by the anti-corruption agency has proved the point it has been making all along.


The CNPP statement said it welcomed the EFCC's intervention and urged it to pursue cases of alleged corruption in Bayelsa to logical conclusions
.
It would be recalled that crisis had enveloped the CNPP, with its officials accusing the Bayelsa State government of being the brain behind it all.


Nobody knows when the EFCC scare would come to a close. For now, the time to pray has come.
