A lawmaker representing Ohafia Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Nkem Agwu is said to be owing his landlord, Dr. Cyprian Nwanodi N625,000 as arrears for two years and one month house rent.

Telegraph gathered that for over nine years, Agwu deputy majority leader in the State Assembly lived with his family in the two-bed room flat located at No 5 Okorodu street around Garrison junction in Port Harcourt.
The matter reached its climax on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 when the lawmaker began to pack his belongings from the flat without the consent of his landlord. However, the landlord learnt about the move later and locked the gates, asking Agwu to pay him before he could move out.
As the Imbroglio continued the next day, Hon. Agwu was alleged to have contacted the police and brought armed officers to arrest Dr. Nwanodi. The landlord and his brothers were in the house when the police arrived but he did not follow them to the station.
When newsmen cornered Dr. Nwanodi", he said: "Hon. Agwu have been living in my house for the past nine years and has been managing to pay his rent before he was elected a lawmaker in 2003. Since than I started seeing unfriendly signs in him. His rent expired in July 2003, but he refused to pay me. As at now, he is owing me N650,000 for two years".
Dr. Nwanodi who was a one-time commissioner in the Old Rivers State Civil Service Commission explained that after given him a quit notice in July 2004, without complying that he will soon go to court over the matter.
The landlord continued; "My problems is that still regard him as a gentle man, let alone an honourable member. Today my life is in danger because I have had terror and assault in the hands of Agwu" he asserted.
All efforts to reach Hon. Agwu for comments proved abortive. But Mark who claimed to be his senior special assistant asked journalists to drop their respective mobile numbers so that he could call them later for an interview with Hon. Nkem on the issue.
