A young man whose name was given as Sylvester Kanu left his home to attend the musical concert a couple of days ago that featured a popular pop band 2 Face. The show which was largely advertised was billed to take place at the Ibom Hall in Uyo.
On arrival at the venue Kanu alias Asuma aged 25 met with misfortune. He was shot point blank by a trigger-happy policeman after a minor argument, according to eyewitnesses who saw what happened.
One eyewitness said Kanu had after initial exchanges with the armed policeman appealed to him to allow him entry to the hall, saying he could afford the gate fee pegged at N1, 000 per person.
He said he was shocked when the police opened fire and a bullet pierced through the victim's abdomen.
As suddenly as the shot rang out, Kanu dropped to ground, blood oozing out from the point where the bullet had passed.
The Telegraph learnt the shooting led to panic and a stampede ensued. Many people ran for dear life, with some of them sustaining severe injuries. But it was Kanu whose case was worst.
A huge hole was created in his back where the bullet exited. Good Samaritans around rushed to his aid and spirited him off to a private hospital where he is presently receiving treatment.
According to information gathered by our man, the policeman has accused Kanu of being a cultist.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has in the meantime ordered an investigation into the shooting incident.
