Lagos - Ten people were burnt to death when two vehicles collided head-on before bursting into flames in northern Nigeria's Yobe State, the police said Tuesday.
The accident occurred on Sunday along Potiskum-Damaturu road and was caused by speeding, a police spokesperson said by telephone.
"There was a collision between a commercial bus and a car. The impact sparked a fire which burnt 10 passengers to death. Only the driver of the bus survived," he said.
Accidents are common on Nigeria's poorly-maintained inter-city roads because of disregard for traffic rules and speeding.
Last month, 10 people lost their lives and several were injured when a truck rammed into some vehicles parked along the road in southeastern town of Enugu. - AFP
