About 63 people have been arrested by Gombe State command of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) between January and July.

About 63 people have been arrested by Gombe State command of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) between January and July.

State commander, Mr. Stephen Iliya in an interview with THISDAY in Gombe, said 22 of them were caught with Indian Hemps.

According to him, 39 of the suspects were without any substance but added that two others had cannabis and rubber solutions with them. Three others were with a cannabis diaphragm and one other had just a diaphragm.

The commander said the 39 caught without any substance had been released to their relations.

"We also cut nine of them who were users and we have decided to counsel them and we are now using them as informants."

Besides, he said eight suspects were now standing trial while another eight were sentenced to jail terms.

"I have a long list of those who have been convicted. Some were sentenced to jail and some were giving option of fines by court," he noted.

Iliya complained of lack of logistics for the command but appealed to government to endeavour to provide operational vehicles and necessary working materials.

He also appealed to traditional rulers in the state to continue to cooperate with NDLEA to get rid of drugs abuse and trafficking in the state.
