A member of the National Assembly from Akwa Ibom State, Hon Ita Enang has decried the current face-off between President Olusegun Obasanjo and his Deputy, Vice President Atiku Abubakar, noting that the face off was capable of denying Nigeria a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council.

Enang, who represents Itu/Ibiono Ibom constituency in the House of Representatives said the current fuel price crisis is another factor that could cost the nation a seat in the UN.
He stressed that it was unacceptable that the leadership of a nation that wants a seat in the United Nations Security Council should be at each others throat while the public groans under heavy burden of petroleum price increases.
According to him, the leadership crisis at the center is impacting negatively ongovernance and capable rendering Nigeria unfit for a seat in the UN
He said "before the UN appoints a country into the security council, it always gather intelligence on that country and about how the people in that country feel. This is part of how any country is rated in the international community. It is not how much money you have but the strength of your currency is what is often considered".
Enang, who is the chairman of the Business and Rules committee of the House of representatives reiterated that the Obasanjo/Atiku face off portrays the nation as an unstable one.He added that policies that determine a nation's membership of the UN security council include a nation's ability to tackle issues that make the country vulnerable and its ability to curtail policies that put its citizenry into despair.
He also added that the value of the country's currency against other currencies at the international market could also impair its bid for the UN seat.According to him, the nation's currency should be powerful enough to exchange at par with other major currencies.
