Abedi Pele warns Mikel: Be ready to warm bench

NIGERIAN international and Lyn midfielder Mikel Obi, has been warned to be ready to warm the bench when he eventually joins Premiership leaders Chelsea.

NIGERIAN international and Lyn midfielder Mikel Obi, has been warned to be ready to warm the bench when he eventually joins Premiership leaders Chelsea.

A member of FIFA Player Status Committee and three time African Footballer of the Year, Abedi Pele, who made the submission in a chat with SportsChampion in Lagos, opined that though Obi is a good player capable of making a difference any day, the calibre of players in the Blues will make it difficult for him to easily break into the first eleven.

"Mikel of course is a very good and intelligent player. He has got a lot of qualities no doubt, but my fear is that he may not find it easy breaking into the team easily because Chelsea parades a lot of good players," he said.

The former Black Stars captain however said there was nothing wrong with the Nigerian new kid on the block wanting to play for Chelsea.

"These is nothing wrong with his choice of Chelsea. The club is perhaps the most sought after today and it is the desire of virtually every player to star for the Blues," he said.

Nigeria according to the former FC Zurich ace have a lot of talented players and look good to produce more Mikel Obi in the future.

Meanwhile, Lyn's coach Henning Berg has declared that their quest for the Norwegian Championship will be strengthened following the return of Mikel to the club.

Berg who described Mikel as a motivator, expressed delight that he and compatriots Emmanuel Sarki, Chinedu Ogbuke and Ezekiel Bala returned to the club after over three months absence no thanks to contractual dispute.

"They are good players and nice people and its nice to have them back at the club," he added.

Lyn who play their next league match, tomorrow, are likely to feature Mikel with intent to improve their standing.

With seven matches left, in the league, third placed Lyn are four points behind leader Start.
