EQUIPMENT and food items worth over N2million were weekend distributed to indigent Igbo women in Lagos by Eze Ndigbo, Lagos State, Igwe Nwabueze Ohazuluike as part of his contribution to Federal government poverty alleviation and economic empowerment programme.

The ceremony which took place at the Obi Ndigbo in New Oko-Oba, Ifako/Ijaiye Local government Area of the state was witnessed by thousands of people including the President of Ohaneze Ndigbo in the state, Sir, John Nzewi, Representatives of the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Chairmen of Anambra and Imo states Development Unions and others.

Presenting the items Igwe Ohazuluike said that the gesture was his own noble contribution to the federal government poverty alleviation and empowerment programme which according to him, 'should be commended and followed with all seriousness .
'The items we are distributing today are worth over N2million and they are meant to assist indigent women and the needy in our society. We kicked off with a similar gesture to women from Anambra State.

Today, it is the turn of women from Imo state and it will go round to women from other Igbo states like Enugu, Ebonyi, Delta, Abia etc before we start with those from other ethnic groups in the country.

'It is hoped that beneficiaries of those items will not only make good use of them but expand their individual business ventures with a view to helping other poor Nigerians. I am convinced that such a contribution will, no doubt, help in alleviating poverty and preventing crime in our society because those that benefitted will certainly be busy and make useful efforts at improving their lives".

In his speech, President of Imo state Towns Development Association (ISTDAL) in Lagos, Dr. Uzo Adirieje commended Igwe Ohazuluke for his kind gesture and contribution to humanity and enjoined the beneficiaries to reciprocate his kindness by making good and effective use of the items. 'I urge all Nigerians of means to emulate Igwe Ohazuluike who, although is from Anambra state, is extending his kindness to other states and ethnic groups in the country".

The items which were presented to over 50 members of Imo state Towns development Association includes, 15 giant grinding machines, 30 hand grinders(Corona), 7sewing machines, 35 Coolers, 30 bags of rice and Bales of wrappers.
