THE Director of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Delta State, Mrs Ann George Keffe has been shot dead by bandits.
THE Director of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Delta State, Mrs Ann George Keffe has been shot dead by bandits.
The Director who was recently transferred to Abuja was on her way to Asaba last Saturday when the commercial vehicle she was travelling was waylaid by the armed bandits.
An official of the NYSC office in Asaba who confirmed this yesterday said the incident occurred last Saturday morning.
According to her 'yes, it is unfortunate, what you heard is true; she was killed along Abuja road, we are deeply mourning".
It was further gathered that the vehicle which she boarded along with other passengers belongs to the Delta State Government-owned Delta Transport Service, operators of Delta Line and when the vehicle ran into the robbers, the driver was said to have tried to escape their barricade but the robbers opened fire which unfortunately led to the death of the NYSC boss. Born a little over 40 years, Mrs Keffe attended Hope Waddell Training Institute, Calabar and later proceeded to University of Ibadan where she studied Theatre and Communication Arts with first class honours degree.
She also holds a Masters degree in Creative Arts Administration from Lesley School of Education in Harvard Massachusetts and a Certificate in Community Development and Leadership Training from the Saemaul Undoing Institute, Seoul, South Korea.
Before her transfer to Abuja she had served barely one year in Delta. A visit to the NYSC office in Asaba showed that the staff were in deep grief.
Keffe was a strict disciplinarian who brought discipline to bear while discharging her duties. It was during her time that she made sure that the usual quest for urban posting was discouraged while rural communities in the state which hitherto were denied of the services of corps members started getting corpers.
