Enyimba and former youth international goalkeeper Sam Okoye has died in Iran, where he had gone on trials.
Enyimba spokesman Tonex Chukwu told KICK OFF that the 25-year-old former Rangers goalie died after being ill for four days.
'I was contacted by an agent in Singapore over this very sad news but we are still trying to get a full confirmation from his family," Chukwu told KICK OFF.
The Enyimba spokesman revealed that former Eagles forward Chukwudi Nworgu was one of the last people to see Okoye alive when the goalkeeper stopped over in Israel on his way to Iran.
Okoye joined the African champions this season from Enugu Rangers where he was captain for several years.
He last played for Enyimba against non-league side Paulson in a Coca-Coal FA Cup quarterfinal match which his team lost.
Okoye was top choice goalie when Nigeria hosted the Fifa World Youth Championship in 1999.
