Former Director General of National Maritime Agency (NMA), Buba Galadima, said this on Tuesday at a press briefing organised by the Progressive Action Congress (PAC) in Abuja.
Galadima, who is a member of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), accused Obasanjo of masterminding the raid on Atiku by the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
According to the director, Buhari Campaign Organisation, the FBI action was not out of the ordinary. 'You have seen what happened in the US. Do you think that it was just the American FBI that undertook to raid the house of a very highly placed Nigerian officeholder like the vice president," he asked.
'If the president is not behind them, it would have caused a big diplomatic row between Nigeria and the United States," he added.
Galadima blamed Obasanjo for saying that the thing is a private affair, stating that 'Atiku is not a private citizen".
'Are we fools? When it was reported that his son was arrested, whether that was true or false, why didn't he tell the nation that it was a private affair?" he asked.
He said the FBI raid on Atiku's house amounted to a disgrace of the vice president in a foreign land.
'A vice president of Nigeria was disgraced in a foreign country, we could have stopped all their oil companies from operating here", he said.
Galadima said the likes of Mamman Gaddafy, Murtala Mohammed or Mohammadu Buhari would have done exactly that and got the Americans to apologise for humiliating Nigeria, were any of them to be in power in Nigeria today.
He lamented that the humiliation of Atiku by FBI was actually a grand design by Obasanjo, 'to deal with all the prospective candidates who could challenge him in 2007".
He said the same treatment was meted out on Gen. Ibrahim Babangida recently.
