Robbers raid police armoury, strip officers naked

BANDITS on Wednesday introduced a new dimension into their operations to successfully cart away arms and ammunition from a police station in Kogi State without any resistance from the officers on duty.

BANDITS on Wednesday introduced a new dimension into their operations to successfully cart away arms and ammunition from a police station in Kogi State without any resistance from the officers on duty.

Numbering five, the hoodlums reportedly came to the boundary police station in Ogala area of Ijumu Local Council in superior police officers (SPO) uniforms, claiming that they were on a special assignment from the State Command Headquarters, Lokoja.

Apparently to avoid any suspicion, the robbers were said to have engaged the services of a fake orderly and introduced themselves with fictitious names.

After accomplishing the nefarious mission, the hoodlums proceeded to inform the unsuspecting victims that they were men of the underworld.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the unsuspecting officers at the station were said to have paid compliments to the fake policemen in a bid to impress them.

The visitors were alleged to have asked for the station's diary and after inspection, asked for the stock of arms and ammunition.

The officer-in-charge of the armoury was alleged to have obeyed the order and promptly supplied the items.

After taking possession of the arms and ammunition, including handcuffs, the robbers disclosed their identities and mission to policemen.

They told their victims that they were out to teach the police a lesson.

Armed with the guns, the robbers ordered the policemen to pull-off their uniforms, which they stuffed in a bag and took-off.

At the headquarters in Lokoja, Mr. Ambrose Igbokwe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, told NAN that the commander in charge of the area was yet to furnish the headquarters with the facts.

On Monday, the state's Acting Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji, paraded 13 out of 50 armed robbery suspects arrested last week.

Magaji pledged that the police would make the state too hot for criminals to operate as "the battle line has been drawn."
